Alex Neil Opens Haven’s Stirling Factory

Alex Neil, MSP and Cabinet Secretary for Health, opened the Haven PTS factory in Stirling along with Mr. Fergus Ewing, MSP and Minister for Enterprise Energy and Tourism, and Stirling MSP Bruce Crawford.

When the UK Government closed the Remploy factories in 2012, hundreds of disabled people were made redundant. The opening of the Haven PTS factory replaces several of the jobs lost due to these closures, starting with an initial headcount of 26 workers.

Former Remploy worker Andrew Brennan said: “I worked for Remploy for 29 years and was distraught when I was made redundant in October last year. I was concerned about where I was going to find employment particularly in a difficult job market and also having a disability. Thanks to the Rehab Group, I have been given a chance to continue using my skills and to learn new ones by working for Haven PTS. I’m delighted to be back working.”

Enterprise Minister, Fergus Ewing said: “Since April 2012 I have been working very hard to mitigate the effects of the UK Government closure of Remploy factories in Scotland.  I chaired the Remploy Stakeholders Group which sought to explore any possible future employment opportunities for affected Remploy employees, and I am delighted that our hard work has resulted in Haven PTS Ltd being able to take on 26 members of staff.”

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary for Health Alex Neil said: “I am delighted that nurses uniforms for the NHS across Scotland will now be provided by Haven Pts Ltd, and that this work has enabled the company to take on so many former Remploy employees.”

New partnership for Haven PTS

Haven PTS began working in partnership with Dimensions in October 2013 to produce a range of nursing uniforms for the NHS Scotland.

Award-winning Dimensions is part of the MWUK Limited Group and one of the UK’s leading suppliers of bespoke corporate clothing with an established international client base.

As part of the three-year contract, Haven PTS will manufacture tunics and trousers for NHS nurses. Manufacturing and dying is carried out and then transported to the Haven PTS site in Larbert for cutting and manufacture. The collaborative venture ensures the whole supply chain remains within the borders of the UK and benefits from the involvement of the private, public and third sectors.

“Haven PTS`s mission from the formation of the business in October 2013, was to provide customers a UK based textile garment manufacturing option, with a very strong Corporate Social Responsibility message and providing sustainable jobs and training opportunities for skilled disabled textile workers.

Understanding and meeting our customer’s requirements is paramount. We are delighted with the support and encouragement that we have received from our partners at Dimensions and NHS Scotland. This support has enabled Haven PTS to meet the set project deadlines and quality standards and become a key member of the Dimensions supply chain.

We are keen to grow our business with Dimensions and hope that our relationship can assist them to secure more contracts as a result of the strong strategic social UK manufacturing option Haven PTS offers.”
